Melynda Snead, photographer

Sneads Ferry, NC

Melynda Snead is a frequent contributor to a Facebook page called Behind Barz, one that we highly recommend for those in the biking community that likes to keep us with motorcycle events.  We are very fortunate that she is also willing to share with us, and it is easy to see why with the following photo.

At one point, Sneads Ferry was actually home to an operating ferry, although that has now been replaced with a bridge.  It is also home to the Sneads Ferry Shrimp Festival, a popular festival  well attended each year.

Corolla wild horses

To learn how you can help keep these horses, please visit Corolla Wild Horse Fund.  They face a variety of problems, with challenges from construction, etc.  Please be sure, if visiting an area that has NC wild horses, to fill in all holes on beach if making sand castles.  These holes create a huge problem for the horses.  Use extreme road caution, also, as NC has had horses hit.

There are many restrictions, and you can find all that apply at the following links.

Portsmouth Island

Due to Portsmouth Island being so isolated, there are several things you should know before planning a visit:  for example, be sure to arm yourself with bug repellant, boat access only, etc.  Please see link for more details on this fascinating part of our state.  The church itself is closed due to damage from Hurricane Sandy.
