Mountains/Piedmont Photo Roundup Dec. 2014

Posted on Sun - Dec 28th, 2014 by NC-Culture Posted in Mountains .

Due to the holidays, our roundup is a little limited this period…just too many events to keep up with.  We did want to take particular note of the following ones, though, and thank the photographers for allowing us to share their work.

This photo was found on Wikipedia Commons, and became quite a popular photo on NC Culture: displaying one of our Christmas tree farms.  This particular tree was from West Jefferson, NC and graced the White House in 1995.

Oceanaluftee Visitor’s Center

Cherokee

Handicap access time!  For our mountains, and one we have not mentioned often on our FB page,  the Oconaluftee Visitor’s Center.  I was unable to locate a direct link, however, there is a facebook and a Wikepedia page with plenty of information available..  The center is 2 miles north of Cherokee.

full handicap access for: Parking, Entrance, Indoors, and Restrooms

Hickory

In Hickory, a popular stop is the Catawba Arts and Science Center, in Hickory…

They have full access for the following: Parking, Entrance, Indoors, and Restrooms.

Cradle of Forestry, Forest Discovery Center

Handicap access for our piedmont starts out with the Eno River State Park, in Durham. (and I would like to add a note here: we now have all state parks listed on our website, okay?  Just check the links tab).

Full handicap access for Parking, Entrance, Indoors, and Restrooms

Jordan Lake State Educational Forest in Apex

Jordan Lake Educational Forest..now this may seem confusing, as Jordan Lake is listed as an Apex address, but the lake is extremely large, so the physical address for the educational forest is actually Chapel Hill.

Richard Petty Museum in Randleman

Richard Petty Museum on Facebook

For racing fans,  the Richard Petty Museum is another popular stop.

The museum in located at 142 West Academy St in Randleman, and has full handicap access for 4 of the criteria:  Parking, Entrance, Indoors, and Restrooms
