Painters Greenhouse in Old Fort
This nursery is closed but scheduled to reopen in March. Their plant list will be posted on their website in Febuary, though. To get an idea of what native plants they carry, you can check out their 2016 list: please note: the plants highlighted in green are considered natives..for example, they carry the American version of wisteria, which we discussed on another post..this one has all the desirable traits, while omitting problems you would have with the wild (chinese) version that is now considered an invasive plant. Also available are ferns, grasses, shrubs, trees and aquatic plants. One I would also like to note is the cardinal flower, not to confused with the cardinal vine.
from their website:
“For 43 years our family business has supplied WNC with high quality, low cost plants. Our selection now includes over 1,000 varieties of potted perennials and annuals, including bedding plants and hanging baskets, pesticide-free edibles, natives, houseplants, aquatics, shrubs and trees.”
Painter’s is located in Old Fort, at 734 Roy Moore Road.
