“Dirty Ankle” of Cleveland County, NC & “Knobby”

Posted on Thu - Jun 5th, 2014 by NC-Culture Posted in Of Special Interest .

Meet “Dirty Ankle”,  North Carolinians..and special thanks to David Ledford who took the time to share this with us.

“Hello my name is David Ledford from the little community as I know as Dirty Ankle, NC.  This community is located at the foot of Carpenter Knob.  This knob is located in North Eastern Cleveland County, NC.  The knob is five miles North of Belwood, NC and two miles North Northeast of Toulca, NC.  The elevation of this knob is 1592 feet.  Carpenter Knob is best known for Knobby sightings, which is a bigfoot or sasquatch.  The first sighting of this so called Knobby was in 1978 to 1979 era.  They have been a more recent sightings of this Knobby in 2010 and these stories can be easily found on YouTube.  I have been unsuccessful to find out where Carpenter Knob got it’s name.  I have found out that they were some family members related to Carpenter’s that lived on the knob back in the early 1800’s.  I hope you have enjoyed this little history on Carpenter Knob.

Here is the only picture I can find that looks well enough to see the knob.  This was the snow in 2010 looking across the road at the knob.”

“Knobby”
The following photo is an example of Sasquatch,  Yeti,  Bigfoot,  Bugerbear, and  Yowie.  Although there are photos of “Knobby” available, we were unable to locate any free use photos to add here.  However, this one gives a basic idea of what “Knobby” may look like.

“Knobby” has been reported as far back as 1978, when Minnie Cook reported it lurking near her house.  Within a one month period after her report, there were a total of 16 sightings, along with a goat found dead of a broken neck.   Since then, the sightings are so varied, along with the reports of the sounds, that NC Culture is providing some links for folks who might want to pursue this further:
1: This blog we found very helpful: Bigfoot Sasquatch
2: Bigfoot Encounters
3: This particular link has a series of photos shot in Rutherfordton County on March 22, 2011: Crazy Horse Ghost Hub Pages
4: WCNC has a report of Knobby in 2010 **Please note: the video clip is overrun by an advertisement..we found if we “muted” the advertisement, you could then hear the interview.
5: The same gentleman, Tim Peeler,  featured in the WCNC report also has a YouTube video: this has a little more information.
5: There is even a Facebook page for “Knobby”, although it does not seem to be very active at this time..We have queried them as to any new sightings.

“Morning Glow”

Table Rock

From Danny Buxton:

“As the sun breaks the horizon, warm morning sunlight reflects off the wet rocks on the east slope of Table Rock Mountain after a day of heavy spring rain. “Blackberry Winter,” the cold snap that occurs each spring as the blackberry blooms appear, seems to hold true again with the predawn temps in the mid-forties and a stiff wind to compliment the coolness of the air temperature. However, in a short time we will be wishing for more of this natural air conditioning as the summer heat arrives…”
